Telescoping Boom Lifts
Telescoping booms lifts are designed to mount a work bucket on an extendable, straight arm which is located on a rotating turntable. Usually, telescoping boom lifts are used for tasks which need reaching at maximum height, exceeding other types of lifts. Like for example, employees could perform exterior repairs or renovations on medium sized buildings but using these lifts rather than having the extra work of setting up a pulley system or an outside elevator.
The boom lift bucket normally only holds a single worker. These buckets are better suited to specific tasks like for example electrical repair, as opposed to window washing or general maintenance. These lifts come in electric and gas configurations and are offered with both indoor and outdoor tires.
Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts are named for the cross-braces under the work platform. These braces squeeze together to be able to push the platform straight up. As these machines must be directly positioned beneath the work location, compared to boom lifts, these units are way more limited in their use.
The scissor lift usually has a bigger platform which allows the operator to control the lift to access a bigger work area when the lift platform is raised off the ground. With scissor lifts, all-terrain capability is less of an issue with these models, as they need to sit on flat ground in order to be used. Scissor lifts are ideal for being utilized for cladding or window installation, because they provide the personnel with the desired mobility; they are also a great alternative for exterior repairs or window cleaning applications.
Boom Trucks vs. Cranes
The cherry picker or boom truck refers to the utility vehicle often utilized to raise workers for different tasks done at heights. Typically, these trucks have a cab. It is here where the operator sits and operates the machinery. There is a bucket for where the employee could stand in addition to a winch for carrying and an actuator arm for lifting the boom.
Boom trucks take personnel to heights that would normally be inaccessible. The function of cranes is to lift heavy materials or equipment from one place to another. There are a variety of different crane types which can carry out a variety of purposes. Both of these different kinds of machinery excel at various jobs and are suitable for certain applications and finishing particular jobs.
