In the year 1949, the Liebherr family business was created by Hans Liebherr. His first claim to fame was the success of his affordable and easy-to-assemble mobile tower crane. It was upon this creation that the foundation of the company flourished under. These days, The Liebherr business has grown to become amongst the world's leading manufacturers of construction machinery. The company has also gained the reputation of being the accredited provider of technically innovative user-oriented services and products in various fields. The company has now become a "Group" working in every continent with over 35,000 employees and over 130 companies across the globe.
The Liebherr Group has been divided into different company units in order to ensure a manageable operating size. These individual units operate independently. This set up allows the business the ability to stay in tune with global competition and be flexible to market signals. As well, having so many individual company units also keeps customer service operating at an optimum level and ensures customer proximity.
The divisional control companies deal with the production for the individual product segments and the operative management of the sales companies. The Liebherr Group currently has ten various product divisions.
The holding company of the Liebherr Group is Liebherr-International AG. Liebherr-International AG is situated in Bulle, Switzerland and is operating by members of the Liebherr family. Currently, the family business is being managed in the second generation by Dr. H.C. Willi Liebherr and his sister Dr. H.C. Isolde Liebherr. Since the year 2012, some of the active individual divisions have been represented by third generation members of the family including: Patricia Ruf, Stefanie Wohlfarth, Jan Liebherr and Sophie Albrecht. These members of the family have been working together in order to help set up the course of the family business in the future. They are staying on top of residential buildings and large-scale industrial projects all over the globe.
Hans Liebherr started to build his company in the year 1949, in a small town called Kirchdorf in southern Germany. Kirchdorf, now supports among Liebherr's 20 manufacturing locations.
