A type of machinery in the material handling industry which can be used to raise and move loads from one place to another is referred to as a forklift. Each forklift part has a specific function. Various components could be used to transport the load either vertically or horizontally.
Mast
The parts used to lower and lift the load is known as the forklift mast. There are different kinds of masts for raising loads to various heights: duplex, triplex, quad and simplex.
Power Supply
Forklifts have four various ways of being powered: electric, gas, propane and diesel. The battery is located inside the cab under the seat. The propane tank is on the rear of the truck. The fuel tank on diesel and gas forklifts is beneath the back of the truck.
Cab
Positioned within the middle of the truck is the forklift cab. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the informational gauges and controls. The steering wheel, gas pedal, lifting controls, tilting controls and brake are all located inside the cab.
Frame
Carrying all the largest forklift parts is the truck frame. This consists of the counterweights situated at the rear that prevents the truck from tipping over when loaded. The frame includes the overhead guard which protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the wheels, driveshaft and axles.
